Our cookbook book club meets regularly to explore different cuisines and cookbooks, and we get together every other month to taste the dishes we've made. A festive potluck meal, in other words, and we'll supply the drinks. In September our host is fourth-generation Puget Sound native, chef, restaurateur, food entrepreneur, retailer, and educator Kurt Dammeier. He has spent the past 30 years of his life working to rid his own diet of food additives, and nearly 20 creating and selling pure, unadulterated foods through his Seattle-based family of food businesses (including Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, Pasta & Co, and Bennett’s Restaurant). In his newest cookbook Pure Food, Kurt shares his own story, as well as providing a roadmap for readers to forge a diet based on pure, additive-free foods.
Since we're talking recipes, here are the step-by-step instructions for participating:
- Come into Island Books ahead of time to buy a copy of the featured cookbook.
- Check out the recipes inside, test them at home, and find a favorite dish to share.
- On the appointed evening, bring what you've made to Island Books.
- Eat, drink, and be merry!
