Elise lives in West Seattle with her husband and two daughters, and she teaches history and literature at The Bush School. Elise's debut novel, The Other Alcott, tells the story of May Alcott, the younger sister of the renowned author Louisa Alcott, and her quest to become a professional painter at a time when women were discouraged from ambitions beyond marrying well. People Magazine selected it as one of its Weekly Picks and The New York Times says, “May’s adventures illuminate the world of intrepid female artists in the late 1800s, a milieu too little appreciated today.”
Elise’s discussion will talk about why the Alcott sisters are relevant to us, even 150 years after the publication of Little Women, and how they’ve inspired her to take risks and embark on her own journey of creativity.
