March's open book club will focus on a work of nonfiction that touches on one of the most imperative issues of our time, The Human Age by Diane Ackerman. As world leaders struggle to lessen the human impact on our planet, Ackerman brings optimism and suggests how we can control our own destiny, with case studies on climate change, energy, our food system, rewilding animals now extinct, evolutionary robotics and nanotechnology. Her absorbing commentary will spur plenty of conversation topics. Come and share your thoughts on animal longevity, rooftop farming, bioengineered body organs, and more.
Island Book's open book club meets the last Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm. Our staff facilitator chooses both fiction and nonfiction titles. All are welcome to attend, and if you purchase your book here in the store you'll always get a 10% discount.
